REAL ESTATE CAREERS

Real estate is a fast-paced industry with rewarding careers helping clients realize their dreams, put down roots and invest in their communities as homeowners.

REALTORS® wear a lot of hats in the course of a day’s work:

Market expert and data analyst, fiduciary representative and financial advisor, client advocate and trusted confidant, and certainly as professional interpreter for the variety of rules, regulations, reports and disclosures involved in the process of buying or selling a home.

Because they deal with confidential information and complex transactions involving consumers, Indiana real estate brokers are licensed and regulated by the State of Indiana, with oversight authority granted to the Indiana Real Estate Commission and Professional Licensing Agency.

To become a licensed broker and successfully launch their new career, aspiring real estate professionals must:

  1. Complete a ninety (90) hour pre-licensing course; learn more about the pre-licensing course (and register) through RECP.
  2. Pass a proctored state exam.
  3. Affiliate with an established brokerage company under the supervision of a managing broker.
  4. Apply for a state broker’s license.
  5. This is the point when newly-licensed brokers may also choose to become a REALTOR®, joining NAR, IAR and their local REALTOR® association and taking advantage of additional education, professional development and member resources – as well as access to the most comprehensive housing marketplace via their local MLS.
  6. To remain in good standing, new brokers must also complete a thirty (30) hour post-licensing course within two years of their license issue date.
  7. After completing this post-licensing course, Indiana brokers must complete twelve (12) hours of state-approved Continuing Education courses annually and apply for license renewal on a three-year cycle.
